It’s been quiet here, few updates, fewer posts of substance, but that’s not to say I haven’t been busy. I’ve been writing! Which is the point of all this, isn’t it?
The writing community I spoke about last was the r/WritingPrompts subreddit. As you can guess, it’s about writing prompts. I started posting there back in February of 2019 and the community has been fantastic. It’s spawned a number of new small short stories and works, as well as projects that I’m still struggling through. In a good way though! Always in a good way.
Now, it has been nearly a year since I last posted, and although I’ve been busy, I have been neglectful. But here is a great chance to show you how active I’ve been.
I have made a small subreddit for myself where I collect my work and share that which I post across Reddit when it comes to my writing and narration work (I’ll talk more about that later – it’s been a big year!)
My subreddit is: r/Leebeewilly
It’s based on an online handle I’ve had for decades and seemed like a nice place to play in the sandbox.
Why a subreddit when I have a blog? It’s fair to ask and honestly, there was a degree of anonymity while posting on Reddit. It let me play around with what I wanted and have some fun without strings. But I’ve really become engrossed in the writing communities there and all attempts to maintain my identity as separate seems kind of moot now.
What’s on the subreddit that isn’t on here? This blog has been more a place to share my thoughts, my musings, my horribly unoriginal epiphanies and progress in the craft of writing. The subreddit lets me sink my teeth into fiction and really just write. I’ve been practicing a great deal of short story writing and really honing my word choice, use, and style. I feel like I am a stronger writer now than I was before the community and the subreddit is a catalogue of those works.
Over time I’m going to do short “behind the scenes” blogs on different short stories and the struggles I’ve encountered while writing short fiction. Those will be posted here, with links to the fiction in question!
If you are interested in mildly unpolished short stories, and maybe following a serialized fiction or two, you can visit the subreddit and read to your heart’s content. It’s free, no membership required, and I tend to update the subreddit once a week. They’ll be some cross-linking between this blog and the subreddit. A nice little way to keep everything tethered and keep everyone informed.
Again, I’m sorry for the absense and worrysome silence. Big things are on the horizon and I can’t wait to share them with you.
